Repossessions to reach 75,000
  The number of homes being repossessed will rise sharply to 75,000 next year, the council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) has estimated.

UK home repossessions rise by 48%

 

The number of properties repossessed by mortgage lenders in the UK has risen by 48% in the past year.
The Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) said there were 18,900 repossessions in the six months to June, up from 12,800 in the same period last year.
The sharp rise was due to the economic slowdown making it harder for some homeowners to repay mortgages.

Mortgage arrears 'on the rise'
 

There has been a sharp rise in the number of people in Northern Ireland unable to pay their mortgage.
A total of 929 writs and summonses were issued between April and June this year, according to the court service. This was a rise of 59% from the same period last year, when 584 mortgage cases... read on...

Repossession orders climb by 24%

 

The number of homeowners in England and Wales facing repossession after falling behind on their mortgages has risen.
The Ministry of Justice said 28,658 orders were made by the courts in England and Wales in the second quarter of 2008.
That was up 24% on the same period in 2007 and 4% higher than the first quarter of 2008.

Firms warned on false IVA claims
 

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has warned 12 firms to stop making misleading claims to people who have declared themselves insolvent.
The firms have been sending unsolicited letters advising recipients to cancel their individual voluntary arrangements (IVAs) and to go bankrupt instead.

The OFT is warning consumers to be careful before responding to unsolicited mailings which advise them to cancel existing individual voluntary arrangements (IVAs) and which suggest they opt for an alternative debt management solution such as bankruptcy instead.
Some such mailings sent out to consumers misleadingly suggest to recipients they may have been mis-sold the IVA and/or that bankruptcy may be more suitable for their circumstances when this may not be the case. These mailings are being targeted at vulnerable consumers in IVAs... read on...

The government has given details of plans aimed at helping homeowners who are struggling to pay their mortgages.
