For the first time in the 15 year history of the City of Derry Pro-Am, the 2005 winning team defended their title, the quartet of David Mortimer (professional) and prehen members Kevin Quigg. Eamon McCourt and Maurice Quigg, whose winning total of 175 points saw them win with a three points margin.
Meanwhile, in the professionals category , three players shared this years first prize with Geoff Loughrey (Roganstwon), David Mortimer (Newlands) and Mark Staunton (Black Bush) all carding scores of four under par.
However, last weekends event, due to the heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday, not only forced the organisers to rest one of the holes but also cancel saturdays second round.
But despite the weather conditions, the event proved highly successful with the full compliment of 52 teams taking part.
For mortimer it will have been a particularly satisfactory weekend, not only was he one of the joint winners, he also led the winning team to its second consecutive victory.
Following the difficulties experienced last weekend, the organisers have now decided to attempt to identify a new date for this annual event with the |
|
sponsors suggesting an early date in the summer.
Indeed, commentating at the Prize Presentations on Sunday evening in the City of Derry Clubhouse, Mr. Colm Duffy, speaking on behalf of main sponsors, McCambridge Duffy, confirmed their continued their continued sponsorship of the event.
"Unfortunately the weather conditions are out of our control, but, thankfully, I'm delighted that the 2006 eventran smoothly and was enjoyed by all." he said.
Mr. Duffy extended his thanks to all those associated with the event before congratulating the various winners.
